Reader's Contribution: What Pure Milk Milk Taught Her Owner About Dog Adoption

Reader's Contribution: What Pure Milk Milk Taught Her Owner About Dog Adoption

The following story was kindly forwarded to us by BeBe, and her hopes of sharing this message across to all the Animal lovers. The unexpected friendship she had formed with her adopted Dog has taught her life-lessons on Pet adoption, and undying love from a voiceless bundle of joy.

Milk Milk is currently facing health issues due to old-age, and Bebe is channeling her heartbreak into a strong message to encourage adoption over purchasing. Here is her story based on her experience and moments with Milk Milk- once abused, abandoned, and eventually having the time of her life in a new found, forever home with Bebe.

The Adoption Tale Of Milk Milk The Shih Tzu

Hi to all the fur-mummies and fur-daddies here,

Recently I’ve noticed there's been a lot of abandoned dogs found on the streets, especially old or sick dogs. It is so sad and heart-breaking to witness these incidents. How could they just abandon these poor creatures, just because they are growing old or sick? Aren’t they supposed to be considered as our family? 😭

Let me share the story of my baby girl with you, my little princess Milk-Milk 🐶

Can you imagine how she felt during that time?

She was scared, dirty, smelly and lived as a stray dog on the streets for quite some time. Until one day, she was spotted by a kind-hearted angel on the street that pitied her, and they sent her to the animal shelter. In the animal shelter, there was a few newborn puppies without a mummy, and she became the new mummy for all those puppies there.

She took care of all the puppies and protected them like her own babies, can you imagine that??

I saw her in a little rusty cage at the shelter with few other black puppies that was obviously not hers. She was dirty and her fur was all tangled up. She looked at me with her big, teary eyes and I felt sad for her. She did not deserve all that, she should be loved and pampered, and she deserved a place called Home, her own Home.

I decided to bring her home. (Instead of getting the cute, clean little puppy I was planning to buy earlier from a Pet shop).

I was worried when I brought her home, as I kept thinking there must be something wrong with her that made the previous owner abandon her. But I decided to bring her home anyway…and yes she proved me wrong, she was a very well behaved little girl and she's full of love. She had totally no problems at all, the one that abandoned her in the streets is the one with problem, a serious mental problem…

She then got a new home, a new life, and a new name, Milk-Milk...

ADOPTING HER IS THE BEST DECISION I EVER MADE IN MY LIFE!!!!

My baby girl is turning 13 this year…to some people, she's not cute, and she's old.
Her hearing and her eyesight are not perfect now. And she started to have some health issues which I worry day and night now. I'm so scared that she'll fall really sick, and I seriously can't imagine my life without her.

If I could, I’m willing to give all my health to her so she can stay healthy every day, for a long-long time.

Milk-Milk gave me all the love she had in her since the day I brought her home. She would try to cheer me up when I'm sad. She would be there for me during my ups and downs. She will do her best to protect me. She would never leave me when I'm sick. She would stick to me, even when I have nothing left. She makes me happy with all her silly actions every single day without fail.

To those that once said, “SHE'S JUST A DOG”, please look into the mirror, “YOU ARE JUST AN UGLY HUMAN!” She's my baby, my little girl, my angel, my princess. She's my EVERYTHING!!!

I will never trade her for anything in this world, because she's the best I ever had...

It's so sad and heartbreaking to see her get old day by day. I just hope she can stay healthy for many, many years to come and I'll love her more each day…People always say, she's such a lucky girl to have me. But actually, I'M THE LUCKIEST PERSON IN THE WORLD TO HAVE HER AND BE LOVED BY HER UNCONDITIONALLY, EVERYDAY!!

Please consider adopting instead of buying…
There are many abandoned Dogs in need of a place called Home, and someone to call Family.

They will love You more than anyone else in this world.
And to those whom abandoned your own Furkids for whatever reason, SHAME ON YOU!!! Your Dog would never leave you no matter what happens, they will always be with you, even when you are poor or sick. That’s how great they are.

Please love them, and give them the love they deserve, because they will love u more than anyone else does. Never abandon them, no matter what happens!!

Love,

Milk-Milk's mummy, Bebe ❤️

This Dog Walk Shows You Why Mongrels Are Essentially A Breed!

This Dog Walk Shows You Why Mongrels Are Essentially A Breed!

What is sweeter than a regular Dog Walk you ask? When there’s a good cause behind it of course! The people of Exclusively Mongrels threw an event dedicated to not just Dogs, but Mongrels- Singapore Specials. This was also the first ever event held in honour of giving local Mongrels more credit that is long overdue!

I'm friendly, and I've got a great smile!

Singapore Specials Day

Animal Abandonment is a serious issue in many countries, bringing about the many shelters and organisations made up of kind-hearted souls with a common goal in mind- to save as many furry lives as they can. And that’s exactly what most Pet events are all about; educational efforts on responsible Pet Care, and hopes of finding Forever Homes for animals ready for adoption!
adopt a dog month
Here Doggo, lemme get rid of this leaf for you.
Many Volunteers are also foster parents for these unfortunate animals, everybody plays a part in spreading the same message, we can all potentially give a loving home and prevent innocent animals from being abused and/or euthanized. Due to the human nature of desiring something brand new or pure-bred, at times we overlook the fact that all species and types of Pets provide us with never-ending love.

Dog Walk With A Twist

Dreary weather for the past few weeks caught us all by surprise when it decided to seriously beat down on the event, with strong heat and bright sunny skies. Locating the event was not hard, as we approached Leban Garden (along Upper Thomson) we could already make out the tents and hear the event commotion. Given that this event was meant for the love of Mongrels, it did not hinder the fact that participants came from all walks of lives, both pure and mixed breeds. An amicable gesture by the organisers we must say, allowing all to feel welcome and able to play a part in this cause.

Getting some much needed rest in their pens!
If you didn’t know, Exclusively Mongrels also included a video series on their Facebook page prior to the event! We thought the most memorable one was how Dog lovers were made to guess a Dog’s breed by touch, whilst fully blind-folded! P.S. turns out these Doggos were all Mongrels, mistaken for Pure Breds! There’s more than meets the eye, indeed.

Event Highlights

This was also our first-time attending an adoption drive with a twist! Two separate tents, one with a semi-circular stage (part of the park) housing merchants and performances, and a slightly smaller tent for Adoption booths and furry companions up for adoption.

Merchants and other shelters
We were thoroughly entertained by the Emcees, and serenaded to the song Home (original of local artiste Kit Chan), performed at the event by lovely lady. This song was chosen to depict the meaning of finding a place the Canine pals could finally call home. Can’t deny the fact that we got a little teary-eyed after that explanation.

Adopt A Special

Crossing the playground to the Adoption tent was quite a treat, it was well cooled which was perfect for Doggos to take a break, allowing potential Pawrents a chance to meet and greet Singapore Specials that were up for adoption. From puppies to adult Mongrels, there wasn’t a shred of hostility, they were all eager to be friends ☺
Mongrels are love
Purdy Puppy
Time flew by quickly when we were there, drawing an end to the event. A good cardio session, lovely stage performances and furry love. The weather had nothing on us! After all, if you needed a refreshing drink or fill up your tummies, Sembawang Food Centre was located right by the event ☺

Animal Rescue Groups And What You Can Do For Those In Need

Animal Rescue Groups And What You Can Do For Those In Need

Hurricane Harvey is a tropical cyclone that hit the shores of United States recently, building up from the 17th of August 2017. It strengthened around the 25th of August, leaving devastating aftermaths from dangerously flooding Texas. The death toll of this catastrophic disaster is currently at 65. The state of emergency of this multitude is surviving with help from its own country, President Trump was at the scene of aftermath, making an official funding request for aiding survivors of the hurricane.
Major celebrities like Leonardo Di Caprio, and Sandra Bullock were one of the few whom made million dollar donations. Our very own sunny island Singapore had a part to play too, The Singapore Armed Forces has dispatched Chinook helicopters to aid in search and rescue. Much of the dangerous period has since subsided, and folks are now on the route to recovering from the traumatic disaster.

Lost But Not Forgotten

Hurricane Harvey has left many homes and structures destroyed, and survivors are now living within shelters. In a state of panic, some Pet owners may not have the luxury of evacuating their Pets in time. This time, the relief efforts of the nation also rounded up stranded pets and animals! Brave Folks were seen evacuating their homes through waist-high water levels while clutching their Fur-babies. Watching these heart-warming footages only made us think “We would have done the same too for our Pets!”

As of now, folks are still touring spots on the lookout for animals in need. If we had lost our Pets during a disaster, we would be ever grateful to find them alive and well after being rescued by a kind stranger. Continued rescue efforts also showed how everyone helped out in saving stranded Pets, even the wildlife!

Viewer Discretion: Tear-jerking footage

Did you know? Pets and animals were not allowed in shelters during Hurricane Katrina, which left many folks refusing to evacuate and leave their beloved Pets behind. We are glad the regulations have since changed for the better!

Animal Rescue In Singapore

While we are fortunately not living in a location so susceptible to immense natural disasters, the common issue we possess is working towards proactive rescue, stopping animal abuse and aiding the noble cause of adopting a Pet as opposed to buying one. You might not have noticed it, but much of these works belong to non-profitable groups whom provide a loving roof over these fragile creatures.

What would you do if you saw an animal in need?

We come across many strays in our lives, but unusual behaviour may cause us to think twice. Like how a Pet with collar shouldn’t be seen out without its owner nearby, at times, the animal seems lost or frightened. We hate to admit it but that most of us choose to turn a blind eye when they see an animal in need. However, it is also safe to say that in every animal lover, there’s a kind hearted soul ready to help! Contacting help would also mean that we’d have to stay by the animal until rescue arrives. This greatly ensures there’s immediate and accurate information on the animal’s whereabouts (because you’re right by it ☺)

How Can I Help These Animals?

Apart from contacting help for rescues, there are many ways to provide assistance to these shelters. Rescued animals are provided the much needed food, housing and also medical care, which is why shelters absolutely appreciate as much help from the public in any means possible. If you wish to, you may also make a donation in forms of food, products and if possible, some of your time to volunteer at these shelters!

A little effort from everyone can go a long way into providing safe and comfortable housing for these lives, until they find a forever home. Better yet, when you are absolutely ready and committed for a Pet, adopt one!

Furkid Family Day by MercyLight Adoption

Furkid Family Day

The weather last weekend was absolutely unbearable, at least that’s what we thought, while we made our way to Sentosa in the morning of 17th June. Nevertheless we were grateful to be invited to a private event as hosted by MercyLight Adoption Shelter, a Furkid Family Day. This was an annual tradition as practised by the shelter, in attempts to gather owners and Dogs (previously rescued and adopted) for a little fun in the sun. Photo Credits go out to everyone at the gathering, thank you!

Game On!

When we arrived this little private event already had all hands and paws full, there were ongoing games, laughter, cheering all around, and we were greeted by a few friendly Pooches, who seemed all too eager to say hi and get back to their games after ☺ Well these were very cleverly strategic games, in which we feel were all meant to allow owners to bond and get to know each other’s Pets better.

Introductions

Game 1 had major introductory vibes, kinda like how you would go around in a circle and introduce yourself at meetings or camps, but instead, here owners had to line up their Dogs according to their age and month in descending order. Thereafter they had to write their Doggo’s name and age on a board and hold it up whilst standing beside their Doggies. What a unique way to meet and greet, dontcha’ think?

Ball Fetch!

The second game with a huge twist, because Doggos here had to “fetch” a truckload of balls at one time (don’t worry no abuse here, we’ll explain) Owners had to don a t-shirt on their Dogs and stick as much Plastic balls on them, these balls had little Velcro strips on, and they were required to walk from one end to another, keeping as much balls on as possible.

Hoops And Bottles

The last bonding game had 3 sections to it, with the first being a human chain where owners were supposed to loop through a hoop and advance to the 2nd station. 3 Selected Dogs in the team will have to pass through hoops (held low) and upon completion the last station springs to action, Doggos and owners go for a swim!

MercyLight Adoption Efforts

This private event is held annually ever since MercyLight Adoption began from humble beginnings of one lady, back in 2009. Official commencement of these gatherings started in 2012. In case you were wondering, they do not only have private events, in fact, the last we saw them was at Furry Friends (Causeway Point)! Furkid Family Day was actually held on two days, a flexible option for Owners.

Seeing how much fun the Dogs and Owners had, we couldn’t help but feel cheery no matter how hot the weather was. This was truly a gathering where owners and their Doggies could mingle and make new friends, not to mention their very own little support group whenever they needed advice or quick tips.

Last but not least, some of these Dogs were rescued as siblings or best friends, imagine the joy they must have felt, still being able to meet their loved ones every once in awhile ☺ We felt all of the warmth not just from the weather, but also upon seeing how free and happy the Dogs were. We left with our hearts full of love, to the next event One Furry Fiesta. Thank you for letting us crash your little gathering, MercyLight!
