Sunset Way Family Day 2017 – Pet Carnival
Last weekend was a
fruitful and furry one for us at The Pets Dialogue indeed. To kick off Saturday’s
event pool was the first drop off at Sunset Way Playground, located in a quaint
little park. The heat from the scorching Sun on Saturday was quite a buzzkill,
but our moods quickly picked up as we were greeted by cheery pet owners
strolling toward the event with their families and furry companions.
The beautiful setting of lush greenery |
You can only imagine
the smile we had on our faces when we saw that the event was held in a shady
spot full of lush greenery, and a tent over our heads! And as though the Event
Organisers knew just how sunny that day was going to be, an Ice cream cart was
conveniently allocated right at the entry of the event (Good thinking!).
Bottles of water were also given out to the public for free to stay hydrated,
another factor that really warmed our hearts.
What Went On At The Event
Puppy Adoption
Puppy receiving a ton of love |
What’s a pet event
without an adoption drive, right? If you ever wondered where you could find a
bunch of ecstatic children, simply advert your attention to an area full of
puppies. The good folks from Exclusively Mongrels participated in the event
with their array of mongrel pups, each of them just too adorable for words.
Can I pet you through the fence please? |
Let's share some cuddle time |
Mommy, can we adopt this lil' one? |
Puppies up for adoption were given free space to roam inside a make shift pen, and they sure looked their best for their potential adopters. Look at how much love the crowd had for these guys! Here’s hoping they all found good homes that day J
Artisan Pet Food & Treats
The joy of attending
a pet event wouldn’t be complete without bagging some goodies to pamper your
Furkids, and this time, it was Wholesome Paws catering to that aspect. We
finally had the chance to see their range of gourmet Dog food and treats this
time, for they were mostly sold out at the
Meet Gilda, the face behind Wholesome Paws! |
We got to learn a little more on how Wholesome Paws came about, as Gilda shared with us her initial intentions of aiding her pet Dog with health problems, which led her to venture into healthy and safely prepared homemade food and treats. It is always a pleasure to see a familiar face at an event!
Vet Talk
We were at 3 events
on the same day, namely “Sunset Way Family Day”, “Parrotopia” and “It’s A PawParty”. All events were equally joyous, but we must admit that the most
educational one we had was at Sunset Way.
How to Care for your Dog 101! |
Up on a small, appropriately sized
stage, a talk on Pet Care which entailed diet, health and welfare tips was
graciously conducted by a Veterinarian of The Animal Clinic Singapore.
Free educational information from accredited sources on your precious Furkid? Why not!
Doggie Fun Contest
If you thought a stage
was just for talks, you can’t be more wrong! Because commencing right after the
talk, was a little Dog Obedience Competition. Event goers had the opportunity
to proudly showcase the bond between themselves and their furry pals, all in
the spirit of good fun.
"Musical Chairs", When the music stops, heel! |
More Education
It sure is great to
see that the Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals (SPCA) has been
rather active in a lot of Pet events, and there they were, spreading the
word on animal adoption and raising some funds for the shelter, with their flea market booth!
SPCA in the midst of event buzz |
The educational tour does not end there, even NParks played a part in this event, running a booth to promote responsible behaviour for every Pet owner. Again, this is a first for a Pet event we’ve been to, which was really interesting because the importance of us Pawrents practising responsible Pet ownership does include not leaving *litter behind.
(*We’re referring to your pet’s faecal waste of course!)
Was It Worth The Trip?
As mentioned, we had
a jammed packed Saturday for us this weekend, timing was crucial and
unfortunately, we did not have the chance to meet the Guest of Honour for this
event, Ms Sim Ann, MP of Holland-Bukit Timah GRC. There was no doubt on the
educational efforts of this Pet event, but perhaps a little more ushering toward
the stage could have been done during the Vet’s speech. That way, useful information and knowledge of such would be optimized to the fullest. Participation
with the perks of Pet education never hurts! J
Michael and his adopted companions! |
Big smiles all around! |
The Community
An event is always
made better when there are sightings of more than one type of pet. We are stoked
to say that there weren’t just adorable Dogs, there were beautiful Cats too!
Both Persian and Maine Coon Cats were intriguingly captivating.
George with his beautiful Persian. |
We are always in awe at the size of a Maine Coon. A happy Family Day indeed! |
As always, it was a
joy meeting fellow pet lovers and we had the privilege of chatting up with them
individually at pet events. The fun and fruitful part is in sharing similar pet
problems, exchanging experiences and having good laughs at funny stories, all
the tears and joy of Pet Ownership!
From L to R - Mr John, George, Mr Fong, and Nicholas |
Nonetheless we would
like to thank members of the People’s Association for having us that day. It
was certainly a pleasure meeting the event organiser Nicholas and also other
members of the team like Mr John, Mr Fong, and George! That was it for us at
the Pet Carnival of Sunset Way Family Day, a great start to our Saturday J
