Canine Party At Camp Kilo Charcoal Club

Canine Party At Camp Kilo Charcoal Club

For the past Pet events that we’ve been to, we must say we’ve yet to visit one with activities carefully panned out for both humans and Pets. Until this particular one at Camp Kilo last Sunday, 24th September, Camp Canine!
Sunday Brunch with Dogs
Camp Kilo's Entrance
While the reason Pet-lovers head to an inevitably Pet-centric event is for the ease of access to a smorgasbord of Pet competitions, attractive deals for Pet products, potential Pet adoptions and most importantly, mingling with like-minded animal lovers ☺, we were pleasantly surprised at this little gathering for canines at Camp Kilo!

Finding Camp Kilo

Camp Kilo is an outdoor grill and bar concept restaurant by Kilo Kitchen, located at the basement of a building right behind Rochor River. We all pitched in for an Uber ride that got us right at its doorstep, which was at a dead end of Kampong Bugis Road.
Sunday boozy brunch with Dogs

It was hard to miss the place, for one thing you could see tails a wagging from a distance, and upbeat Hip Hop music spun by the DJ. This got us pretty excited.

What We Saw

So we were expecting the usual fare of stalls and adoption booths, plus fun and games as stated on the e-flyer, perhaps even a main stage. But this was a little different. We were greeted by people sitting around on picnic tables and benches, having conversations with each other.
Asian Girls with puppies
Happy People, Happy Pets
Their furry companions seemed to be having a blast too, sniffing around and making friends with other canines. There were a ton of chatter and smiles all around, not forgetting a pleasant coincidence running into Isabel Tan, one of Singapore’s top Social influencers! We caught her just in time for a dashing photograph of her and Maru.

Participating Stalls and Shelter

Venturing into the compound we saw stalls and more stalls. Familiar faces such as Exclusively Mongrels whom were there with their Furkids up for adoption, including homemade gourmet food and treats by Wholesome Paws.

2 Chainz got nuthin' on these bad boys
A couple of new faces included Moby, and also FOURS, with their  fancy take to the common leash and collars. Get your fair share of gold and silver bling for your lovely canine companions. Just ask these Pug-life thugs (we’re kidding, these guys were sweet as can be)

Hanging Out With The Dog Lovers

Stalls were followed by rows of picnic tables and long benches, filled up by Pet owners and their furry pals. Though the weather was a tad humid, this seating area was nicely shaded behind the building. What better way to chill the heat, than to have a nice cool beverage? For most patrons at this event, the top choice was beer. And if you’d like, you could even enjoy a platter of fine meat, artfully grilled and prepared by Kilo on the spot for its meat-loving human patrons.
Sunday brunch in Singapore
Sunday-brunch vibes
Cracking open an ice cold pony-neck and exchanging conversations and laughter with others is just a thought too good to be missed. And this little event had just that. From Mongrels, Dachshunds, Pomeranians, Shiba Inus, Golden Retrievers, Chihuahuas, Grey Hounds, and Pugs, everyone was dressed and ready to mingle.

Was It Worth The Trip?

If you’re all up for a day of good food, good company and furry fun over a chilled out session of ice cold beer, the answer is Yes, indefinitely. It was the perfect setting to relax with your friends and family on a Sunday.

More seats and more Doggies!
Naturally, being responsible for your Pet’s behaviour is equally as important, so be sure your canine pal is carefully monitored (if they are new), to avoid conflicting encounters amongst other Doggos! The only down side to this event (a minor one) was how long the queue was for a beverage. Well, nobody likes queuing (LOL). Doggos and friendly humans made it all better though! ☺

Our Review

Spending a day out with your Furkid(s) can go in both extremes, really enjoyable, and a real hectic time altogether. Events are a great form of socialisation for your Doggos, letting them grow accustomed to new sights, sounds and smells.

Camp Canine had the perfect combination of fun and chill-out time for both humans and their pet Dogs, leaving us with nothing but good vibes after the event. Time flies when you’re having a good time, they’d say, in which we could only agree so that day. We had so much fun mingling and petting furry pals, we’d definitely be back for a second round of Camp Canine, hope to catch you there! ☺

Popular Cat Cafes You Can Absolutely Visit In Jakarta

Popular Cat Cafes You Can Absolutely Visit In Jakarta

Are you a huge fan of Pets and animals? Then you must have heard of Pet cafes and their therapeutic means of providing warm fuzzy love for its patrons. In Singapore itself, there is no denying the fact that our people value the voices of animals and we love spending a little extra time cuddling and doing activities with our furry and feathered companions.
Pet cafes in the world
Warm homey feeling!
As of now, we have four Cat cafes, one Dog café, and six Pet friendly places you can bring your Doggos to and find a menu available for Dogs. In case you were wondering, there are nifty little joints like such while you are overseas too!

Are Pets cafes in other countries any different?

We took a trip to Indonesia last month, to take a look at the situations and lifestyles of Pets and animals in a whole different environment. When one thinks of Indonesia, Jakarta comes to mind, as the busy capital for business, and a place that has a bustling infrastructure like Singapore.

With Tokiopedia (Indonesia’s biggest online marketplace for Entrepreneurs and small businesses) receiving its latest funding round, the booming Tech-industry is sure looking up and promising! Continuing our Indonesia trip series in this very article is a visit to not one, but two Cat cafes in Jakarta, Indonesia. Read on to experience our sights and full review of our experiences with these Cat cafes!

Oh hello!

The Cat Cabin

Jakarta is basically Singapore, a metropolis with tall buildings and a ton of traffic. If you thought the traffic was bad here, wait till you get to Jakarta. Getting from point A to B (of short distances) was much more different than in Yogyakarta. The first Cat café we visited was in the hub of Malls, marketplaces and younger crowd (think Orchard Road).

Finding The Cat Cabin

We got here by a local Taxi this time, wanting to test out the rates. In Yogya, we travelled around mostly by GoJek, our go-to means of transport in Indonesia, alike to Uber and Grab. We most definitely recommend this app as a form of getting around Indonesia (Read more on why we prefer GoJek in our upcoming final article). Our destination brought us to a 3 storey Black building with The Cat Cabin’s sign visible on the side.

Cat on Sofa
It was a quiet little building with very little windows and no entrance, plus the sign was a little tough to spot, but we caught a few local girls heading up a flight of stairs and we thought, “It must be up there!” Based on our prior research, The Cat Cabin is located on the 2nd floor. As you head up a small flight of stairs to the 2nd floor, you should see the cafe entrance on your left!

Just one of the many Cat condo

What To Expect

Greeted by a glass door with vinyl decal that pictured the Café’s logo, silhouette of a Black Cat with the words The Cat Cabin, we knew we were at the right place. From the glass door you could see through to the Café’s interior of different Cat-friendly structures and wooden theme, much like Cats and Coffee in Yogya.

My eyes seem to be this way all the time
The Cat Cabin was much more brightly lit, soaking up light from its full length windows and a good location. Upon entering you will see shoe racks with rubber sandals decorated with Cat related decals on them, and an order counter.

Notice Board
Patrons are required to remove their shoes and slip into a pair of rubber sandals. Pick a pair that fits you well and leave your shoes on the racks. While swapping out our shoes for sandals, there was a notice board that was hung behind provided seats, displaying a cute photo introduction to the feline hosts that are in the Café, inclusive of their names and breeds! The board also had notices for adoption drives and event booking enquiries. Missing Cat in the area? Drop a flyer off with The Cat Cabin and these folks would be more than happy to pin it up for you ☺

Rules Of The Cat Cabin

Pasted right above the shoe racks are the house rules patrons have got to abide by, nothing too absurd, these rules basically stated:

No Flash photography

No disturbing of Cats while they sleep, light petting is allowed

No feeding of human food

No pulling of Cats’ tails

Approach Café Staff for help if you are not too sure how to hold a Cat (but would love to)

Rates And Charges

If you read our article on Cats and Coffee in Yogya, you’d notice the surprising fact that there was no entry fee, normally charged by the hour (yes most of our local Cat Cafes charges that way too). For The Cat Cabin, the charges are as follows:

(Entry) First Hour – RP 60,000 Weekday, RP 70,000 Weekend
Subsequent hours – RP 50,000

Cat cafe tourism tip
Welcome!
We’d say we were in luck, because the Café was running a special promotion at the time, with two beverages to choose from, Unicorn Tears and Lavender Latte. Purchasing either drink waives off the first hour charge, entitled to one drink per person. Naturally, we took the deal, which surmounted up to about RP 80,000 for 2 individuals, one drink each!

What else do they serve at The Cat Cabin?

Menu

Quite frankly we weren’t expecting much variety, as we’ve mentioned before, don’t be expecting a wide spread of delicacies at Pet Cafes because patrons are mostly there for a session of furry love! However, we must say that The Cat Cabin’s menu had quite an array of Food and Beverages:

Coffee
Sodas
Milkshakes
Italian cuisine of pastas
Dons (Japanese Rice with ingredients)
Indonesian rice specialties

The Cat Cabin menu
Do you spot the Cake Jars?
Not forgetting desserts for the ladies, pick your preferred cake form, in slices, or in jars ☺ Prices for individual food and beverage choices range from RP 25,000 to RP 40,000 each (approximately SGD 2.50 to 4), you can’t get these rates in Singapore we must say!

The Cats

The café is a hit with the local girls, already having a ball of a time cuddling and snapping photographs with the Cats. It was a nice change of pace this time, because most of the Kitty hosts were up and moving about. Can we also add that, they were all beautiful and friendly?! Here at The Cat Cabin, they have a range of Maine Coons, Persians and Local Cats, all nicely groomed and clean.

Hi there!I'm awake and ready to play
The café was spacious enough to house a large table, smaller cosy seating areas with cushions and even a smorgasbord of Cat condos. Where we sat stood the tiniest little door frame. Peeking in, we spotted a private eating area and litter boxes for the Cats to make their escape, dine and relieve!

Was It Worth The Trip?

We thoroughly enjoyed ourselves, with a good dosage of kitty love. The Café was clean and our feline hosts were friendly and sociable, and the café staff were also friendly and attentive. There seemed to be no room for boredom here at The Cat Cabin, as they’ve also considerately included shelves with a myriad of books to choose from, ranging from all things Cat and also fictional favourite.

Feel like entertaining your feline hosts in return? Pick a toy from the shelves and play with them for a good round of kitty brain stimulation! This is truly a space for Cat lovers, by Cat lovers. We left for our next destination feeling relaxed and very much loved. Definitely pop by when you are in Jakarta!

The Other Cat Café In Jakarta

Located nearby in Jalan Kemang Raya was Cutie Cats Café, in which was a little hard to find due to its very washed out sign up front. Again, this was a Cat Café located on the 2nd floor of a building, with a narrow walkway that led to stairs and up to the Café itself. Note: walkway and stairs were part of the café.

Cutie Cats Café

We noticed that there were two Cutie Cats Café, one located in Jalan Kemang Raya, and a pop-up cafe within Lippo Mall itself. Both of which were much smaller than the other Cat Cafes we’ve been to in Yogya and Jarkata, however they did display a lot of exotic Persians and long haired Beauties. First impressions? All of our feline hosts seemed very well fed and sleepy. Since we have sniffed out quite a couple of bad reviews on their Facebook and TripAdvisor, we were very curious indeed. Time for a little sniffing.

What We Experienced

Unfortunately we had a tough time conversing with the staff due to language barrier (a common encounter while we were in Indonesia), but at these two outlets it was even tougher as no one spoke English. It was made even harder when they tried to ignore us. The most we found out was the entry fee of RP 80,000 ++ per hour, the highest rate we’ve came across.

We decided to give it a pass after trying for 10 minutes, at both locations! Well, we tried. In conclusion we would say that Cutie Cats Cafe at both venues were clean, judging from the counter area and Cafe ground. Space seemed a little cramped, and they do serve Food and Drinks. We are unable to obtain any further details, also their website is still a template, nothing is maintained nor updated.

One Furry Fiesta Event Review

One Furry Fiesta

17th June Saturday was yet another eventful day for ThePetsDialogue, we visited two events, and one of which was “One Furry Fiesta”, held at a large open field space in the midst of some private houses. More accurately, between Lorong Ong Lye and Serangoon Avenue 1. This was an event hosted by the People’s Association of Bartley NC and Braddell Estate NC. Interestingly, it was also a ceremony to celebrate the upgrading completion of the estate.

One Furry Fiesta Pet Event Singapore
Massive!

What Was Expected

Despite the countless of Pet events we’ve been to, which were mostly a combination of highlights catered for all types of Pets (Dogs, Cats, Rabbits, Birds, you name it) The event highlights as stated on the flyer which we listed were “Dog Workshops, Dog Competitions and Dog Booths”. Alright, so this was shaping up to be a pretty Dog-centric event in our heads. Gotta admit we thought the turnout was gonna be rather disappointing. What if people did not own Dogs?

What We Saw

Boy were we surprised! Not only did the event turn out to be a pretty large sized one, the highlights catered for Dogs only did little to reduce the turnout for this event. It was One Furry Fiesta alright. The tent-space was as large as Nee SoonGRC’s Pets Fiesta, and Kallang Trivista’s Pets Carnival. Because it was catered to Dogs only, they had substantial space to include a Main stage, and a massive Dog show ring (fully furnished with obstacle courses).

Stalls For Humans

Since it was an open space, you can pretty much enter the event from any angle, but there was an allocated path that led right up to it. Firstly, you’d be greeted by the Organiser's Registration booth, which comes with a goodie bag filled with Dog treats, coupons, and a Picnic mat (of usage we’ll explain later on).

Churros Rainbow Ramadan Bazaar
Churros!
Moving forward, we saw two whole rows of Food stalls, lined with Hipster food by Churros Factory, traditional food like Roti Canai, Kueh Salat, and even Ice Cream. It was as though we just just walked into a miniature Geylang Ramadan Bazaar. Did we mention that these little bites were mostly free for all that popped by the event? Of course, this could be one of the reasons why part of the crowd got drawn to it (yes even those that came without Pets. Haha)

Pet Stops

The other stalls were merchants for our Furry pals, of which we met a few new faces behind adorable non-skid socks for Pooches, handmade pretty multi-coloured leashes and also handcrafted porcelain plagues customised with your favourite photo of your Pets (these are made to last a lifetime!) For this event, the participating Veterinary Clinic was Advanced Pet Care, a pretty new establishment in the East of Singapore, there to conduct free Health checks for your darling Pooches.

Again, it wouldn’t be a Pet event without participating Shelters, this time around Exclusively Mongrels, OSCAS and Purely Adoption were lined up side by side, gracing the event with their rescued Mongrel and pup show stars, always on the look-out for good homes!

Usual educational talks were given up on the Main Stage, this time with the appearance of Dog training specialist, Sunny Chong and his team, and they were also the folks behind the Dog Competition! Apart from that, the attention drew from the stage to the main event that everyone was looking forward to that day, the competition which included “Pets Idol”, “Dog Got Talent” and others such as temptation and agility runs.

Community

It has always been a pleasure for us to meet and speak to people at the event, especially fellow Pet lovers and owners like ourselves. Through conversational topics we discover what is lacking in the industry and also what they enjoy most about visiting an event with their Furkids. Needless to say, there is a common reason we all share : to be able to spend some time with their Furry companions and mingle with others with similar passion for their Pets. Here are a few folks we thoroughly appreciated having a convo with!

One Furry Fiesta Review

The weather was unforgiving (as always), we’re pretty sure you’re aware of how hot it can get these days. There wasn’t anybody who wasn’t sweating that day, however we could tell that everybody and everypawdie had their fair share of fun, even while taking shade from the heat. And on to the purpose of the Picnic Mat! Organisers have kindly provided an airing of the movie Kungfu Panda soon after event highlights were over, for families to unwind on their Picnic Mats when the Sun has set.

Bouncy Castle Uncle Ringo Singapore
Boing!
This was a first at a Pet event for sure, and we began to understand why the time frame for the event was set between 4pm to 7.30pm. Just in time for movies after dinner. By the way, there was also a bouncy castle! It was a huge hit for the kids (it was riddled with Children) And yes, it was a pretty worthy trip to end the day. See you guys soon at another Pet event!

Pet Fiesta at United Square

Pet Fiesta & Family Day at United Square

As locals we find United Square a less frequented mall as compared to the other neighbourhood malls, so it definitely sparked our interests further when we found out about this event. And indeed we went, on the 30th April, Sunday, for Pets Fiesta & Family Day (United Square), organised by Newton Neighbourhood Committee.

Pet Event Singapore
Pet Fiesta & Family Day at United Square

What Was Expected

To be honest we weren’t too sure what to expect, having not been to United Square for quite some time, and never attended any outdoor events there before, we went with an open mind. After all, the event details pointed to quite treat, bird lovers display, air plant workshops, Children activities, and a free health check for your pets by Mount Pleasant Veterinary Group (if you purchase the event tickets). Tickets came with free goodie-bag and food coupons too. All that seems pretty standard for a neighbourhood Pet event, either way, we decided to check it out ☺

What We Saw

First off the bat, the event layout was rather unusual due to the allocated space, it wasn’t the regular cluster or rectangular space, so it was a tad bit confusing where to start, but nevertheless, you could just follow the booths. The heat was beginning to get to us, at the same time, we couldn't resist staying longer to take a look at the adorable Pets.

An Array of Meowdels

So we began with the most prominent booth which belonged to the Cat Welfare Society, Volunteers and their foster Cats ready to dazzle potential pawrents. As always the kitties look to be in great condition, and because of the heat, a few of them were getting pretty restless that afternoon. Volunteers were ever ready with fans and even ice packs to cool the Cats down (what kind, responsible Cat lovers!)

Cat Welfare Society
Yes Hoomin gave me a nice shade
There were also 2 Maine Coons accompanying their owners at the Supercoon booth that day, the Coons were a huge hit with the kids and adults, and all we could say was how adorable one of the Coons was, always wanting a hug from it’s owner.

Health Check

Mount Pleasant Veterinary Group was stationed at their booth, performing health checks for pets and advising pawrents on pet care and tips again. This is the second time we have ran into them, the first was at It’s a Paw Party by Lim Tai See Community. Sure is nice to know of an active Veterinary group participation for community events.

3 shelters/organisations were present that day, all of which hard at work raising funds and on the lookout for adoptive pawrents! Apart from SPCA (Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals), there were ASD (Action for Singapore Dogs), and EM (Exclusively Mongrels), with their array of adorable Mongrels up for adoption! Since this wasn’t the first time seeing them, we couldn’t help but wonder if a few Dogs were the very same puppies we saw at Sunset Way’s Family Day! (if so, they sure have grown up well!)

Other Activities

Products on sale included merchants Perro and Wholesome Paws, and SuperCoon, bringing us to the quiet end of the event, a small, curved lineup of other booths. To be honest the only activity that caught our eyes were the laid out paintings by children, and we were lucky to capture 2 girls doing just that.

Was It Worth The Trip?

Pet events in singapore
Sun's still blazing!
We wanna be honest as can be with all our reviews, being pet owners ourselves ☺, and here’s our take: Perhaps the weather was a bummer and unexpected, but the standing Fans were overworked and not helping, we could see some Animals struggling, thank goodness their volunteers were attentive. That could also be one of the reasons why the crowd started avoiding the event. The Main Stage had no happenings and located a little astray from it all, which kinda made us wonder why it was there. Good on the Emcee who tried to keep event goers entertained by walking around the event though!

Pet events in Singapore
Main Stage

Not too sure if we missed it, but we covered the entire event, only to come across ONE bird perched on its owner’s hand. Tad disappointed that there wasn’t a Bird display, especially when details state otherwise. Last but not least, we’re pretty sure regular Pet event goers are aware that bottles of free water are usually handed out (especially if the weather was sooo hot), sadly, at this event, water was provided to ticket buyers. Tickets were going at $5, well we aren’t misers because those funds should go to a good cause, but the event just didn’t feel justifiable.

Poodle and Schnauzer

Let me pet you Kitty!
Still, it ain't all bad, and enjoyable even if you did not buy the tickets, and it was a good time seeing familiar peeps, and much more Cats than usual at an event, and the children did seem to be having fun! Perhaps the public would've stayed longer, if not for the dreadful heat ☺
