Perhaps food and beverage isn’t one of their strongest traits (pretty decent stuff no less), just don’t go expecting Michelin Star rated food. But it warms our hearts knowing some these once abandoned Cats have found good homes and are undeniably well taken care of .

What you can be guaranteed of is a pleasurable, fuzzy and knowledgeable experience, sure to calm your senses— Psst, keep your eyes peeled for exotic breeds!

An Inspiring Moment For All

For the safety of a cafe's own kitties, no. Also, it is advisable to keep your Cats indoors, given recent Cat-killing incidents, and Cats falling to their deaths. These Cat Cafes are perfect places to get some inspiration and tips of keeping your Cats perpetually entertained and safe indoors!

And from the looks of these Cat Cafes, can we just quote the wise words of Sheldon Cooper — “Meowow” :3

Cleaning And Disinfecting Your Pet’s Bed Efficiently: Why You Ought To And How You Can!

Cleaning Up Your Pet's Bed More Effectively With These Tips!

Pet health and hygiene at home goes beyond food and grooming as we take a closer look at ways we can create a better living environment for our Pets— cleaning and disinfecting their beds. This responsibility not only applies to Dogs and Cats, smaller Pet types such as Rabbits, Guinea Pigs, Chinchillas, even Birds too!

Cleaning of their bowls and accessories should be part of a daily routine, discover quick methods and steps of easing up that process here.

Just How Dirty Can My Pet's Bed Get?

Like us, our Furkids come in contact with potential bacteria every single day, the only difference is that we have better knowledge to efficiently clean ourselves up. It's high time to give your Pets a hand with that— here are a few questions to address to understand the importance of properly cleaning their beds:

  • Does your Pet shed a lot?
  • How frequent do you take them out for a walk?
  • Does your Pet drool excessively?
  • Do they have current allergies or skin issues?
  • How quickly does dust accumulate at home?
Washing Guinea Pig beds

Bacteria, germs, diseases and harmful pathogens can be carried through many ways, such as vomit, saliva, urine, faeces, any other form of discharge and even hair/fur. These are potential nesting grounds for a lot of bacteria— Regular washing enables easier and more efficient removal of these pathogens. Since regular grooming is already an essential part to having a pet, why let the cleaning effort go to waste when you can ensure that they are turning in for a good night’s rest on a fresh clean bed☺

1. Vacuuming

To start off, you can include vacuuming your Pet’s bed in your weekly home cleaning regime, especially for Pets that shed a lot— Clumps and clusters of hair and fur get stuck in and on their beds!

Hot Tip #1      A good quality vacuum can even come with brush-heads of excellent assistance in picking up Pet hair on fabric.

2. Lint-Rolling

A good roll-over with a lint-roller or tape can also quickly get the job done! Additionally, this gets rid of dust, and the chances of them swallowing their own fur is greatly reduced.

3. Choosing A Suitable Pet Bed

This can be tricky, there are too many adorable designs! Your Pet’s unique preference(s) might come first, but we should also consider if it is laundry-safe. For example, a Pet bed with removable covers that allows washing would be ideal— you can easily chuck the covers into a washer for a good rinse. A bed with non-removable covers on the other hand, would require a much longer time to dry after rinsing.

4. Disinfecting With High Heat

The advised temperature to successfully kill any harmful pathogens is 60°C to 70°C (140°F to 158°F).
  • Pre-soak bed covers in boiling water and Pet-friendly detergent.
  • Opt for an even natural cleaning agent like Distilled White Vinegar instead.
  • Soak for at least one hour
  • Rinse thoroughly with water
  • For laundry-friendly fabrics, pop them in the washer!

Hot Tip #2      Avoid using bleach and fabric softeners, bleach is harmful if not properly washed and ingested by your Pets, and fabric softeners could be really tough on their sensitive noses.

5. Drying Methods

Using a Dryer is one efficient way to dry any permissible material, but for those of us that do not have one available at home, the Sun is your best friend! Fresh, sunned-out laundry not only smells great, it further depletes any remaining bacteria. Now you can ensure your Pet has a clean and dry bed ready on the very same day of washing☺

Don’t forget to give their beds a good spritz of Pet-friendly disinfectants and air out before you usher your Furkids in.

Hot Tip #3      During seasons where you can’t be too sure of rain or shine, swing by a Laundromat and pop your laundry into a Dryer for a spin!

Happy Cleaning!

The Singapura Cat: Singapore's Forgotten Local Cat Breed

The Singapura Cat: Singapore's Forgotten Local Cat Breed

It isn't uncommon to spot different stray Cats while walking along the streets and sights of Singapore. Look a little closer next time and you'd even notice these petite Cats with short coats that were not exactly solid, not striped, nor patchy or spotted— There's a high chance you may have already met a Singapura Cat☺

The Singapura Cat

The Singapura is fondly dubbed as Kucinta and also Pura. They were first known to be street cats in Singapore who loved making appearances in gutters— until Cat fanciers Hal and Tommy Meadow from America fell in love with them upon a fateful trip to Singapore in the 1970’s. Drawn to their tiny size and unique features, Hal and Tommy eventually adopted three from none other than SPCA (Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals). It was then when the origin of the Singapura Cat was put to question by other Cat fanciers, with claims that the breed was brought in from United States of America.

Fun Fact #1      The name Kucinta was chosen as the winner of STB's mascot naming competition, derived from the words Kuching and Cinta, which translates to mean Cat, and Love respectively.

Source
And although the origins are still a wee-bit shrouded in mystery, the CFA (Cat Fancier’s Association) eventually recognised the Singapura Cat as an official breed in 1988, from sunny Singapore. Singapura Cats soon gained a lot of attention and popularity amongst locals and tourists. Later in 1991, STB (Singapore Tourism Board) decided on this particular breed as their official mascot.

Fun Fact #2      Did you know, 15 Singapura Cat sculptures were made to be placed at different locations along the Singapore River initially? These sculptures were unfortunately subjected to vandalism and theft. Currently, there are 3 Singapura Cat Sculptures— featuring a Mother Cat watching her two kittens play.

Have you seen them?☺

Appearance Of A Singapura

Size — Singapuras are the smallest of all domestic cat breeds in the world. Their tiny, muscular bodies weighs from 2 to 3 kgs (Female) and 3 to 4 kgs (Males). when fully grown. In comparison to an adult Maine Coon Cat, the Singapura Cat may well look like kittens.

Features — Pure-bred Singapuras sport a long slender tail with a dark coloured tip. Ears are deep, large and slightly pointed, coupled with large almond shaped eyes.

Colour & Coat — The short, smooth coat of a Singapura is only registered in one shade, Sepia Agouti. This is a mixture of hairs alternated between a dark and light brown, giving the overall coat a warm ivory base, patterned with dark tickling hairs.

Grooming A Singapura Cat

With their short, smooth coat with little to no shedding requires only weekly brushing. Since Cats are naturally fastidious with hygiene, they are excellent self-groomers— occasional baths should maintain a healthy and clean, coat. Trim their nails whenever necessary, and clean their eyes and ears with Vet-approved cleansers and a cotton ball. If you are unsure how to perform these tasks, approach a trusted Veterinarian or Groomer for professional advice and service.

Personality Of A Singapura Cat

Like their never-changing petite size during adulthood, the playful and mischievous nature of a Singapura remains even reaching adulthood. Their activeness comes along with the love of being on high ground, but they are versatile enough to be the perfect lap Cat! On top of that, it has been said that the Singapura is a Cat breed that enjoys being taught tricks, and are very people-oriented.

Source
While they absolutely love playing and chasing things around the house, you can count on a Singapura to be the gentle friend that is there for you, especially when you are going through a rough patch. Affectionate and sociable, they thrive with attention and company from their owners, children and other pets as well. The Singapura Cat makes a great house pet, not only are they child-like, they are sensitive companions at heart. Not to mention sociable as well. But we would conclude that if you have a busy schedule, this cat would require other forms of company, like children or even other house pets. With proper care and much love, the average lifespan of a Singapura is 13 to 15 years.

Adopting A Singapura

If you chance upon a stray Singapura Cat that you would absolutely love to adopt, please be sure to bring it to a vet for an overall checkup, not to mention register them. Otherwise you could always check out the Local Shelters for options. Though the Singapura Cat is not considered extremely rare locally, it is still renowned for their unique agouti coats in many other countries. Why not adopt a national treasure and bring home hours of fun and companionship all packed into a tiny cat?

Maine Coon Cats: The Giant Domestic Cat Breed With A Gentle Heart

Meet the largest domestic Cat breed

The Maine Coon, also known as Coon Cat for short, is one amongst a few giant cat breeds. To top that, they are also possibly the largest domestic cat breed in the world! Accompanying its stunning size and friendly nature, Coons have a rich history just as impressive. Just where did these majestic Cats come from and how do they fair as companions?

Maine Coon History and Origins

With a rich history that possibly traces centuries back, there are three popular stories to this query— Unfortunately, neither can be proven real, but aren't you intrigued with such information to this elusive feline breed?

1. Marie Antoinette — This story is ranked the richest in many minds; how often are you able to link a cat breed back to a major historical event? Legend has it that the French Queen was escaping France during war, and she loaded a ship full of her prized possessions which included 6 Cats, of mostly Turkish Angoras. Queen Marie Antoinette had plans to hide away in America, but was assassinated on the day of escape.

via History.com
The Captain of the ship, whom was said to have built the Queen a home in America, had no choice but to set sail for America after the unfortunate incident. Bringing along all the Queen’s belongings and keeping them in a house he built for her in Wiscasset, Maine. He took care of all her cats and they were allowed to roam around. Eventually they bred with the local short-haired cats, and their off-springs were thereafter classified as the breed Maine Coon.

2. Captain Charles COON — This is a story of an English seaman named Charles Coon, and his avid love for cats and collecting them. Apparently, Captain Coon had a ton of cats on-board his ship as he sailed, and when he finally docked his ship back home in New England, his long-haired cats had the chance to explore on land, mating with the local short-haired cats. The day a long-haired kitten was first sighted in town, locals began calling them Coon's Cats.

3. Cross Breeding — Some strongly believe in this third story, one that is rather similar to the Captain Charles Coon's. The interbreeding of short-haired breeds in America with long-haired breeds brought to shore by New England seamen. Cat breeds included Angoras, and also long-haired cats introduced by Vikings.

The First Large Cat To Compete

Have you ever wondered which Cats got the ball rolling for competitive Cat show rings? look no further, it is none other than this lovely feline, The Maine Coon. It dates back as early as the Maine Coons’ appearance in the first North American Cat Competition held in Boston, 1878. In 1895, there was a huge buzz for the winner of a Cat Show held in New York, belonging to a brown tabby Maine Coon named Cosey, of Mrs E.N. Barker. What you see below is the prestigious silver collar won by Cosey.

Appearance Of A Maine Coon

Maine Coons have distinctive traits and appearances that relate to how they pulled through tough times surviving the cold and war times:

Size — Maine Coons are large Cats, and we’re talking about the average weight of a male to be 6 to 8 kgs, and females to weigh around 4 to 6 kgs. Their bodies are usually long— the average length of a full adult Maine Coon can range from 20 to 40 cm! (*GASP*)

Features — Maine Coons: Squarish face with rounded almond-shaped eyes— noticeable long mane can be found around their neck, back of legs, tipping around ears, in between paws and tails. Tails double up as a warmer coiled around them for extra warmth, and tuffs of fur between extra-large paws make excellent snow-boots.
Maine Coon Cat Vs Norwegian Forest Cat
via listofanimal.host
Coat — One distinctive appearance of the Maine Coon would be their lush and dense long fur. Just enough to give them the appearance of a miniature-adult lion. Not to mention, their fur is also grows out in an effortless, downward manner for grooming ease, and is also believed to be water-resistant— try beating those stats living and hunting in the cold!

Colours — Maine Coon Cat colours are divided into variaties such as Solids, Smoke, Tabbies, Ticked Tabbies, Tabbies with White, Tortoiseshell, Shaded, and Shaded with White, Bi-color, and Parti-color. Of which may include colours like Black, White, Brown, Cream, Blue, Red, Silver, and Mackerel.

Grooming Requirements Of A Maine Coon

Cats and water are uncommon terms to be placed together, but Maine Coons are in fact widely known for their love of water! A Coon Cat's lush, dense, glossy and water-resistant coats make them undefeated swimmers in the Kitty Kingdom. Such a practical coat surprisingly requires minimal grooming— with regular brushing and combing.

Keep their coats fresh and healthy with baths if necessary, and clean out their ears and eyes with a Vet-approved cleanser and cotton balls. Trim their claws when they get too long to avoid injuries! If you are unsure how to perform these tasks, approach a trusted Groomer or Veterinarian for professional service.

Maine Coon Personality

A large-build and squarish stern features makes one wonder if the Maine Coon is even friendly at all. In fact, they are said to be one of the most playful, affectionate and sociable feline breed. You can expect to spot one greeting guests, if they're not enjoying one of their other pastimes— napping and lounging. Owners have also described them to be the clowns of the household with their silly, random actions.

On top of all that, these cats also enjoy a good walk outside, on the leash, just like a dog! Though this breed is known to be playful, it is said that males tend to have a bigger personality, drawn to approaching humans around the house more often than a female Coon. The average lifespan of a Maine Coon is said to reach an average of 10 years, longest to be 15 years or more.
