Poodle Circus Show In Singapore: Netizens Outraged At SISTIC And Resort World Sentosa

Poodle Circus Show In Singapore: Netizens Outraged At SISTIC And Resort World Sentosa

SISTIC and RWS (Resorts World Sentosa) has recently stirred the outrage of Netizens of Singapore— for listing up this Circus act featuring a Poodle troupe from China, scheduled to perform for Chinese New Year 2018. The description promoted on SISTIC was as such:
Animal Cruelty of China Circus
Event Listing by SISTIC via Facebook

“Amazing Awesome Acrobatic Fun for everyone in the Year of Dog!

When the first and only Dog Circus from China is in town for the Chinese New Year, it is the show you should never miss! Lots of laughter and amazing performances by the cute lovely poodles with many attractive and unique performers to bring to you a brand new circus experience that includes breathtaking Kungfu diabolo, ring stunts, fun acrobatics, giant balloon acts, bubble show and funny clowns acts, leaving your eyes wide opened with a “WOW”.

Chinese New Year Dog Circus 2018. Edge-of-your-seat thrills in entertainment that abounds with stunning actions, great energies, wonderful excitement and everlasting happiness!”

Animals involved in Circus performances may have been a form of entertainment in the past, and clearly hasn't been surfacing as much of late for obvious reasons— Animal Cruelty. What we can find on the Internet has changed the perception of humanity for a good cause. Animals are often subjected to inhumane training just to perfect their performances.

Just when we thought Singapore would never condone such acts, let alone performances...
Whoever agreed to this Poodle Circus has obviously fallen to exploiting a well-celebrated, traditional holiday— Chinese New Year.

Well, apologies, because the canine lovers of Singapore will not be sitting idly by as this happens.
Read on to see how much outrage the listing has sparked thus far.

Cat Found With Limbs Bounded By Cable Ties At Jurong West

Whilst making their way home, Ms Salbiah and Ms Rashal were alerted by the unusual cries of a Cat, and decided to trace the origin of the cries. To their surprise, what they found was a stray Cat with its limbs tightly bounded by cable ties. Ms Salbiah recognized the Cat as a community Cat as she is a resident of that very block.

She hurried home to fetch a pair of scissors while Ms Rashal tried her best to calm the Cat down, along with another helpful passer-by. The Cat was then freed by these ladies carefully cutting the cable ties after. Local Cat organization CWS (Cat Welfare Association) was alerted and the matter has been reported to the AVA (Agri-Food and Veterinary Authority of Singapore).

This is the original footage from Ms Salbiah Ishak, of the freeing process, via The Straits Times on Facebook:

Cute But Illegal: Hedgehogs Cruelly Abandoned At HDB Refuse And Nature Reserve

Cute But Illegal: Hedgehogs Cruelly Abandoned At HDB Refuse And Nature Reserve

ACRES (Animal Concerns Research and Education Society (Singapore)) posted up unsettling photos of African Pygmy Hedgehogs, on the 15th of November 2017. Hedgehogs are illegal to own, sell or trade in Singapore, and it has garnered quite a lot of attention as a household Pet in many other countries. What was discovered is further proof that we should never succumb to obtaining a Pet just because they are cute, and later abandoning them when the thrill surpasses.

According to the post by ACRES, five Hedgehogs were discovered in a plastic tub, at the refuse collection of a HDB building. The other photograph of a single Hedgehog found by Herpetological Society of Singapore in a drain— at a nature reserve, whom which unfortunately died from suffering severe infection of maggot wounds.

While Hedgehogs are undeniably cute, this does not account for the torture they have had to endure from irresponsible Pet Ownership. Not to mention, they are also illegal, and here’s why, as stated by AVA (Agri-Food & Veterinary Authority of Singapore):

Source via AVA
Wild mammals bred or kept in captivity such as Hedgehogs (though illegal) require a lot of care and responsibilities, just like any other Pet. Even permitted Pets are victims to abandonment, the number of Dogs, Cats, Rabbits, Guinea Pigs and even Birds getting left behind are appalling.

Pet abandonment and illegal Pet Trade is against the law! And here's how you can help:

Report any sightings of advertisements online offering prohibited wild animals as pets— by clicking “Report/Flag Ad” on the respective social media platforms, inform the authorities (AVA), or write to [email protected].

Local Cat Rescued After An Hour Trapped In A Mailbox

Yup, you read that right, a local stray was found trapped in a letter box at Bukit Batok, Singapore by Ms Nurhayati Hashim as she was on her way back home. She first took notice after hearing distressed meows coming from the letter box. The whole rescue process which took place from then was stated to be about 1 hour.
According to Channel News Asia’s interview with Ms Nurhayati, she reported the matter to Bukit Batok Town Council immediately but was unfortunately diverted to contact SingPost which then told her to reach out to the Housing Board Development. She then made her way up to the unit of the letter-box only to find out that the owner did not possess the key to the letterbox, as it was with another whom was overseas at the moment.

 Watch the video here.

The Cat was eventually released from the letter box after Ms Nuhayati decided to contact the Police for help, prompting a SingPost officer to arrive on scene and unlock the back segment. Read full news article on Channel News Asia.
