Pet Expo Singapore 2017

Pet Expo Singapore 2017

It was the time of the year all Pet lovers should not have missed in Singapore, an annual massive sale of Pet food and accessories at attractive prices, including adoption drives, fun contests and did we mention it was ALL about Pets?
Main Stage!
This year the event had it all thought out, it wasn’t solely for our four legged furry companions, but for Fids and even Fins! It’s the long awaited time every pet lover for all sorts and sizes, the Pet Expo Singapore 2017!

What Was Expected

The last time we’ve actually been to Pet Expo was the very first time it ever happened, now we’re not too sure about the Pet market back then, because it was SO dead, and it did not cover all Pets, so this year was a definite, significant improvement! So all across the event page was a 3-Day smorgasbord of highlights, and we got extremely ecstatic:

Grumpiest Bunny

Fiercest Cat Walk Contest

Cutest Dog Snore

Most Beautifully Decorated Aquarium

Best Song Bird

Dog Breed Race (SG Special, Corgi & Jack Russell Terrier)

SKC 13th Grooming Exam & 1st APAC Grooming Competition
Cat Contest

Pet Social Influencers

C’mon, doesn’t it sound extremely fun?! There was also a meet and greet session of Instagram Pet Celebs, like Muffincan, Plato, Eskimoloaf, Coby, Kingking and Smallie. (Aww hey, everyone’s a star in our hearts.)There was also a speed dating program hosted by AVA (Agri-Food and Veterinary Authority) for Dogs, and for this year, Cats and Rabbits too! Now everypawdie can find some furrr-iends!
Friends FUR Life!

Animal Welfare

There’s no Pet event complete without the good folks from animal shelters and this was a massive event. That could only mean housing a whole buncha organizations and groups! All of which doing the good work of raising funds, finding good homes for rescued animals, and educating the public.
A Shelter we know too well
Participating Shelters include: Action for Singapore Dogs, Oasis Second Chance Animal Shelter (OSCAS), Purely Adoptions, LostPaws Singapore, Exclusively Mongrels, House Rabbit Society Singapore, Noah’s Ark CARES, Animal Lovers League, Cat Welfare Society, Causes for Animals Singapore, Joyous Bark, Mercylight, SOSD, and of course, Singapore Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals (SPCA)

Let’s not forget participating Veterinarians Doctors Beck&Stone, there to lay out useful health tips for your pets. When it comes to Pet welfare, you gotta have Pet insurance, and yep, Liberty, AON Happy Tails and AIA were all-ready at their booths there to promote the importance and usefulness of it all.

What We Saw

Hmm, a sea of heads. A really, really huge pool of heads. And Paws, and fur. That’s to be expected, right? It was rather suffocating for our friends who brought along their Cat, so we decided to take a break outside, glad to know we weren’t alone, loads of other Pawrents were out with their Doggy pals, this was a place to see, and be seen.
When the crowd cleared!
After the crowd died down, we headed back in and had a better look at the area, Cat comp was still on, and well, the rest were pretty much the sale of Pet products. Of all things, we found the “Pet clean-up corner” the best segment. (Are we weird? It is a nice thought no? )
Time for a wash up, lil fella
Oh, we also came across the section for Fishes, located all the way at the back of the event, We’ve gotta say those were some enormous “Horns” on the displayed Luohans (Flower Horn Fish). Apparently there were also mini competitions held for the best looking Fish, like Luohans, Fighting Fish, and…Guppies! We must say that was a pleasant surprise.
Yup, Guppy Appreciation!

Is It Worth The Trip?

Well…you know we are all for the Pet community, transparency and honest reviews only! So we gave up after the first day of Pet Expo, simply because it was too crowded and things on sale weren’t of anything new. The brand of food our Pooch consumes wasn’t even there.

It ain’t all bad though, it’d be perfect for Pawrents who’d love to stock up on their Pet supplies, test out new widgets and such. Aside from shopping, this is the place to be to mingle and make friends with fellow Pet Lovers! And if you were considering to go next year, we’d say attend all days, because we do feel that’s the only way you’d get to enjoy all the highlights (since they were panned out at different times and dates)
Perhaps the cutest stall
The highlight of Pet Expo for us was meeting familiar faces from Pet Shelters like OSCAS, this is the 3rd time bumping into them, and we shared a lovely chat with them as always. Also, we absolutely enjoyed petting all the lovely Furkids there! You don’t need to own a pet to visit Pet Expo 2017. They weren’t lying on that
Some Rockin' Schnauzers
There's too many people staring Mommy!

What Did Our Friends Think?

Perhaps it was the crowd, or heat, or the unpredictable weather (it was pouring at first!) Certain items were still not exactly discounted or on sale as our friends thought. So it’s pretty much a trial and error guys. If you’re in luck, you’d find the product your furry companion loves, at a cheaper deal!
Rare colouration for a Shiba Inu!
Alright, into the Pet carrier!
We also received an interesting feedback about Pet Expo from a community lady on our Facebook Page, She mentioned that there were too many free-roaming Dogs, aka unleashed Dogs, which could be quite an issue for our Muslim friends. See, from what we gathered, the misconception that they “can’t touch Dogs” is not true, what they shouldn’t come in contact with is their drool.
I'm young, but I'm well-behaved ☺

Being on a leash does not mean you can't be fashionable

Yup, it's Stripes Day!

We actually have Muslim friends whom love Dogs as much as their feline companions, and we also witnessed some Pooches with muzzles on (for a different reason, but that is extremely considerate), so we couldn’t help but understand her worry, it is nice to have your pets roam around freely, but at a massive event like such, perhaps a general rule of leashing could be observed? After all, it’d be safer for your Furkids too!
