The Dachshund Dog
The Dachshund is a
hound type Dog with ancestral lines that possibly trace back to Ancient Egypt,
these references were derived from engravings of Short-legged hunting Dogs and
mummified Dachshund-looking Dogs from burial urns. However, the modern
Dachshunds we see today were bred and developed in Germany, even though the
combination of breeds still remain a mystery.

Although Badger
hunting was what Dachshunds were best known for, they also excelled in hunting
other tunnel animals such as Rabbits, Foxes and even wounded Deers, with their
innate sense of tracing scents from the ground. The German breed standard was
written in 1879, and the Dachshund Club of America was formed in 1895. They
quickly rose in popularity as a home companion in America and throughout the
world.

and developed for hunting— paddle-shaped feet that come in handy for
digging purposes, and flap-down Ears to keep debri out. Even the original Dachshunds’
curved tails were meant for easy spotting above the tall grasses and bushes, at
the same time, it serves as a hauling tool for when they are stuck in burrows!

Dachshund Dog Grooming
We are going to split the requirements up into 3 segments according to the respective Coat types, because y’know, the fanciful comes with more work ☺
1. Smooth Coat — The other term for smooth coat Dachshund is also Short Coat, and this type requires the least amount of grooming, just brushing once a week and a bath once in two months, unless of course, your Dachs decided to roll around in dirt (which they do love)
2. Wired Coat — Requires much more care for their Coat, brushing regularly to prevent matting and tangles. Frequent baths to keep the coat fresh and clean from debris.
3. Long Coat — Regular brushing, blow-dry and baths to keep their coats shiny and clean. Maintain brushing everyday is possible, and wiping down with damp cloth is necessary.
Good news
is, all Dachshunds do not possess any doggish stench, but due to their hunting
instincts they may have a tendency to love digging in a dirty patch and smells
heavenly to them. In that case, it’s obviously bath-time after ☺ Other grooming requirements include
cleaning out their ears with a Vet-approved cleanser and cotton balls, plus
trimming of their nails whenever necessary.

Dachshund Breed Personality
Dachshunds
are not only playful and loyal, they are also known to be amongst the top most
intelligent Dog breeds and are never shy. Which brings the next factor in, as
intelligent Dog breeds can sometimes also be stubborn. Barking is one of the
common issues faced with Dachshunds, they love challenging other Dogs, even
those that are much larger in size, by yapping. The love of chasing small
animals stems from their hunting abilities. Dachchunds are also known to be
rather protective and snappy about their toys and space, therefore they are not
recommended for young children.

actually obtain one, here are some other facts about them! They do need substantial
