The Dachshund Dog

The Dachshund is a hound type Dog with ancestral lines that possibly trace back to Ancient Egypt, these references were derived from engravings of Short-legged hunting Dogs and mummified Dachshund-looking Dogs from burial urns. German breeders have bred the Dachshund to excel in Badger hunting, with original German names such as Dachs Kriecher (Badger Crawler) and Dachs Krieger (Badger Warrior). Appearances of these Dogs were found in old German books that date back to the 18th century. The German Dachshunds were also physically larger than those we see today.

Although Badger hunting was what Dachshunds were best known for, they also excelled in hunting other tunnel animals such as Rabbits, Foxes and even wounded Deers, with their innate sense of tracing scents from the ground. The German breed standard was written in 1879, and the Dachshund Club of America was formed in 1895. They quickly rose in popularity as a home companion in America and throughout the world.

2. Wired Coat — Requires much more care for their Coat, brushing regularly to prevent matting and tangles. Frequent baths to keep the coat fresh and clean from debris.

3. Long Coat — Regular brushing, blow-dry and baths to keep their coats shiny and clean. Maintain brushing everyday is possible, and wiping down with damp cloth is necessary.

In that case, it’s obviously bath-time after Other grooming requirements include cleaning out their ears with a Vet-approved cleanser and cotton balls, plus trimming of their nails whenever necessary.
