Furry Friends - The Pet Carnival 2017
It is a rather
unusual sight for us to chance upon a massive Pet event located within a
neighbourhood mall here in Singapore, much less for more than 3 days! And there
we were at the very heart of the action today, Causeway Point. This is an event
that carries on from 10th to 26th March, but what we were
drawn to was the segment featured as Pet Carnival, from 13th to 19th
March.
What We Expected
There seemed to be
quite a bit of hype with the Pet Carnival, with banners and flyers being
circulated around on Facebook. We went there expecting quite a turnout, hoping
to meet some of the pet community people from Cat Welfare Society, MercyLight and even Singapore Veterinary Association, especially with the rather
interesting looking program line-up as stated on their e-flyer. This was no
Orchard Road but, c’mon, Woodlands MRT Station is a pretty busy one.
What To Expect
Trust us when we say,
the line-up is pretty extensive, we are not only looking at a fair, we are
looking at educational talks and adoption drives for Dogs and Cats. If you’re
looking into any of these related topics, don’t miss this event out!
13th to 17th March – Craft Workshop
13th to 19th March – Pet Food &
Accessories Fair (by Pets’ Station)
18th March – Cat Adoption Drive (by The Cat Welfare Association)
How To: Care for your
Cat (by Singapore Veterinary Association)
19th March – Basic Dog Training (by Waggies)
How To: Groom Your
Dog (by Pets’ Station)
Dog Adoption Drive (by Mercy Light)
Dog Obedience
Performance (by Mercy Light)
How To: Care for your
Dog (by Singapore Veterinary Association)
From the above info,
you can already guess when the main highlights are happening during this entire
event. Strategically scheduled for the weekends of course!
What We Really Saw
Alright, perhaps it
was a little ambitious to head there on the very first day of the event, not to
mention on a MONDAY. What we saw was a nicely set-up area (right outside of Metro 1st Floor), going with the theme of a Carnival.
The only area that
had the most buzz was perhaps the tiny corner where you could view some Hamsters,
as always, live animals are a big hit with the families with kiddos. Right here
is where we ought to give some credit to Pets’ Station for the descriptive
boards around the live animal corner, providing brief educational information
on Breeds and such. For safety reasons, no petting is allowed (Sorry Kids!)
Along the perimeter
of the event is where you’d find the array of Pet food, treats and accessories,
from Pet beds, Pet Bowls, Cages, Pet Shampoo, to Carriers, Litter-boxes and Cat
Condos, all part of Pets’ Station’s pet fair. And well, you can’t call it a
fair without a sale, right? Almost everything displayed at the fair was on
sale!
Some of the brands
include:
For Cats – Sheba, Fancy Feast, Aixia and Alice Pets Farm
For Dogs – Cesar, Earthborn
For Rabbits or Guinea Pigs – Oxbow & Kaytee
Discount Range

Right in the centre
lay the Main Stage of an apt size, nifty spot where the talks and
demonstrations would be held. Unfortunately, we did not manage to catch the
Craft Workshop (supposedly happening on the 13TH), and no staff on
duty seem to have any knowledge of the commencement timing. Needless to say, we
gave up after waiting for 3 hours.
Is It Worth The Trip?
We’re going to be
frank here, it was rather disappointing and dead, so it was definitely not worth our trip! However, this article is not intended
to deter anybody’s interest in attending this event. After all, it was only the
start of this week-long Pet Carnival, and as mentioned, the highlights are
happening on the weekends, 18th and 19th March.
If you have some
stocking up to do for your Pet supplies, but have zero interest on listening to
talks or watching performances, then hey! The weekdays are a perfect timing for
you to grab some pet necessities, because there wasn’t a crowd to fight through,
and plus you get the early bird grabs before stocks run out!
For those that love
the bustle of good family fun, furry animals or wish to learn more about pets,
head down on Saturday and Sunday, we are confident it’s gonna be an educational
and fun filled weekend.
Independent & Loners - Cats are thought to be solitary creatures by many, but anyone who has visited a farm where there are cats will find they congregate in colonies, sometimes nearing twenty in number and seem even to hunt together. cat tree house
