The Maltese: Tiny White Toy Dog
Yet another Dog breed
that has been around for centuries and a hot favourite in Singapore, this breed
has earned its way into the hearts of all ages. They may seem completely
innocent and sweet, but the Maltese has a personality to keep you very
entertained as a Pet owner and human companion within their average lifespan of
12 to 14 years (with proper care and love
no less!)

The Maltese
Although the origins
of this particular Dog breed is still relatively unknown, much literature
records (even paintings on vases for
wines and goods) of the Greeks and Romans depicted the Maltese as “Melitaie”,
from as early as 500 BC! Another common reference to their name can be traced
back to Dogs from the island of Malta in the Mediterranean. They were also
known as “Ancient Dog of Malta”, “Melita” and “Roman Ladies Dog”. Now that’s a
lot of names for this tiny fella we must say!

Appearance Of A Maltese Dog
The Maltese is a
small sized Dog belonging to the Toy group, with long silky straight hair that
can reach the ground if not trimmed. They do not have an undercoat, hence
shedding is very minimal. Maltese Dogs are generally white in colour these
days, with round Black eyes and nose, dropped ears that give them a gentle and
kind yet alert expression. We rarely spot a long coat Maltese in Singapore, you’re
more likely to see a short coat Maltese.
Maltese Grooming Needs
Long coat Malteses
have to be brushed daily for maintenance which prevents matting and tangling.
Experts advise any tangles or mats to be completely combed out before giving
your Maltese a bath, as water contributes to even tougher tangles (Ugggh, uncomfortable!). After a complete
drying process, long hair around their face can be tied up to prevent hair from
getting into their eyes, (also a go-to
cute look for many female owners *wink*)

Maltese Breed Personality
Despite
their kind expressions, the Maltese is in actual fact a confident pooch with a
whole lot of character (don’t judge by its size too!) Playful, feisty and
intelligent, a Maltese makes an excellent companion, but it is important to take note not to spoil your Maltese, as it may
result in behavioural issues such as excessive barking and over-protectiveness.
House breaking (potty-training) is said to be rather tough when it comes to a Maltese,
but patience and perseverance as always, Pawrents! Here’s a basic guide to potty training.

Owning A Maltese In Singapore
As We’ve
mentioned earlier, the Maltese is indeed one of the most popular breeds in
Singapore, and it isn’t hard to understand why, much like the other popular breed; Toy Poodle, a Maltese is intellectually capable of learning very well from socialising
and training on top of being oh-so-adorable, providing many owners a rewarding
and close relationship with them.

Adopt, Don’t Shop
Standard
breeds are great, but we could say the same for all other crossbreeds and even
mongrels. Before you head off to purchase a Pet, always keep an eye out for
adoption drives or check out local shelters for more options, you could always
count on finding your next loyal companion and providing a forever home for a
rescued furry pal.
I am amazed by the way you have explained things in this article. This article is quite interesting and I am looking forward to reading more of your posts. Thanks. korean maltese puppy for sale
