Homemade Breath Freshening Treat For Cats

Good oral hygiene isn’t just for Dogs, it is also an important for our feline pals, especially if we’re talking about fishy breath. We all know Cats love chicken and fish but if you’ve noticed something is starting to smell a little fishy (ahem, their breath, we love them no less), and you’re feeling a little skeptical about store bought breath fresheners, give this easy recipe a whirl!

This is the way I brush my teeth

You know we’re all about keeping our eyes peeled for amazing recipes specially for your Pets every weekend, and this long weekend (Labour Day, Weeee!) we came across this recipe on
Off Beat Home, a perfect Cat treat that combines breath freshening Parsley and the healthy goodness of Sardines. If you’ve never made Cat treats or meals before, give a beginner’s recipe a try!

Ingredients

½ cup Quinoa flour
½ cup Brown rice flour (You could also make these with oat flour)
1 tbsp Dried catnip
4-5 oz (approximately 114 grams) Sardines
¼ cup Parsley, rough chopped
1 Egg
½ tbsp Olive oil

Directions

1. Preheat oven to 350 degrees (Approximately 117 Degree Celsius) . Line a baking sheet with parchment paper

2. Throw all of the ingredients in a food processor fitted with the blade attachment until it comes together. It should be cohesive, and just a little sticky.

3. If you want to make cute little shapes, dump the dough out on parchment paper on the counter and press with your fingers (or use a rolling pin) to about ¼ inch thickness. If you don't care about the shape you can just pinch off pieces and make little balls
(Remember these are treats so they shouldn't be too big).

4. Transfer treats to the prepared baking sheet. Bake for 10 minutes until they are dry to the touch and a little browned. Allow to cool completely before giving them to your cat. Store in an airtight container.

Editor’s Notes: All cats are different in what they like. Link (Editor's Cat) likes sardines so that's what these are made with (use tuna, or chicken if you like). Some cats are really picky eaters and won't like these at all.
