This Dog Walk Shows You Why Mongrels Are Essentially A Breed!
What is sweeter than
a regular Dog Walk you ask? When there’s a good cause behind it of course! The
people of Exclusively Mongrels threw an event dedicated to not just Dogs, but
Mongrels- Singapore Specials. This was also the first ever event held in honour
of giving local Mongrels more credit that is long overdue!
Singapore Specials Day
Animal Abandonment is
a serious issue in many countries, bringing about the many shelters and
organisations made up of kind-hearted souls with a common goal in mind- to save
as many furry lives as they can. And that’s exactly what most Pet events are
all about; educational efforts on responsible Pet Care, and hopes of finding Forever
Homes for animals ready for adoption!
Here Doggo, lemme get rid of this leaf for you. |
Many Volunteers are
also foster parents for these unfortunate animals, everybody plays a part in
spreading the same message, we can all potentially give a loving home and
prevent innocent animals from being abused and/or euthanized. Due to the human
nature of desiring something brand new or pure-bred, at times we overlook the
fact that all species and types of Pets provide us with never-ending love.
Dog Walk With A Twist
Dreary weather for
the past few weeks caught us all by surprise when it decided to seriously beat
down on the event, with strong heat and bright sunny skies. Locating the event
was not hard, as we approached Leban Garden (along Upper Thomson) we could already make out the tents and hear
the event commotion. Given that this event was meant for the love of Mongrels,
it did not hinder the fact that participants came from all walks of lives, both
pure and mixed breeds. An amicable gesture by the organisers we must say,
allowing all to feel welcome and able to play a part in this cause.
Getting some much needed rest in their pens! |
If you didn’t know, Exclusively Mongrels also included a
video series on their Facebook page prior to the event! We thought the most
memorable one was how Dog lovers were made to guess a Dog’s breed by touch,
whilst fully blind-folded! P.S. turns out these Doggos were all Mongrels,
mistaken for Pure Breds! There’s more than meets the eye, indeed.
Event Highlights
This was also our
first-time attending an adoption drive with a twist! Two separate tents, one
with a semi-circular stage (part of the
park) housing merchants and performances, and a slightly smaller tent for
Adoption booths and furry companions up for adoption.
We were thoroughly
entertained by the Emcees, and serenaded to the song Home (original of local
artiste Kit Chan), performed at the event by lovely lady. This song was
chosen to depict the meaning of finding a place the Canine pals could finally
call home. Can’t deny the fact that we got a little teary-eyed after that
explanation.

Adopt A Special
Crossing the playground
to the Adoption tent was quite a treat, it was well cooled which was perfect
for Doggos to take a break, allowing potential Pawrents a chance to meet and
greet Singapore Specials that were up for adoption. From puppies to adult
Mongrels, there wasn’t a shred of hostility, they were all eager to be friends ☺
Time flew by quickly when we were there, drawing an end to the event. A good
cardio session, lovely stage performances and furry love. The weather had
nothing on us! After all, if you needed a refreshing drink or fill up your
tummies, Sembawang Food Centre was located right by the event ☺
