Relaxing Music For Dogs: How It Really Affects Your Pooch!
As we should be aware
by now, our dearest canine companions are descendants of Wolves. In the wild,
Wolves and Dogs are known to communicate and identify pack members through
howling, each tune distinctive to their family. For domesticated Dogs such as our
very own, barking and howling are often perceived as an attempt to communicate,
or even taking a swing at music-making ☺
How Does Music Affect My Dog?
Behavioural studies
have proven that Dogs are actually capable of identifying different tunes and pitches,
enabling them to be affected by music like we do– Rock & Hip Hop induces
adrenaline rush, the certain touch of angst and even a hint of sadness at
times. Classical & Jazz music is best for relaxation.

It is said that Dogs
have a better inclination to wind instruments due to pitch and frequency. But
like us, how Doggos react to the genres of music varies too (there's always a preferred choice). Undeniably, the
most noticeable reaction is your Dog trying to join you in on a number as you
sing or dance around at home (we all have
those moments).
Fun Fact There has
already been music pieces composed for Dogs, according to their hearing
frequencies, some were even created with
the howls of their own canine pals!
Awaiting the next performance |
A few Pet services
today (Pet boarding/sitting, Grooming, Pet shops) have incorporated music
within their premises to encourage positive, soothing vibes, and sometimes even
for overall healing purposes. A very good example of our first-time
experiencing this was at an art exhibit; PAWsitive. one particular piece was put together with a spot for Doggos to rest, accompanied by
the melodic tune of A Whole New World
(soundtrack to Disney’s Aladdin),
tuned specially to a Dog’s hearing frequency!
Jazz For Dogs Event
Well, need we say
more? Of course we do! Although the name of the event is pretty
self-explanatory, there is of course, a different amicable cause for this
event– to raise funds for shelters and find homes for Dogs that are available
for adoption!
Everyone relaxed? Good! |
This event was held right in the middle of Botanic Gardens,
Singapore. Organized by ASD (Action for Singapore Dogs); Admission
was free, with the option of purchasing a picnic basket with a mat, all prepared prior to the event. There was also a choice for freshly prepared Dog food for your furry friend!
Live Jazz
performances were going on at the Shaw Foundation Symphony Stage, and this was
perhaps the only time we saw Botanic Gardens packed with so many four-legged
friends. It was exactly as you’d imagine, colourful picnic mats sprawled across
the lawn across the stage, and everyone and every paw getting serenaded by fun Jazzy music. Judging from the expressions and vibes from the crowd, we’d
call it a musically effective event indeed.
